2025/2026 GRADED A+
PoE - Power Over Ethernet. Utilized bored cables, saves money. Can use for security
cameras.
What is the backhoe problem? - You only have one cable and it get destroyed by a
digger in construction.
What is the solution for a backhoe problem? - Having multiple paths, separate, different
pathways instead of just one. Complex.
802.11g - Uses the 2.4-GHz frequency band and provides a maximum theoretical
throughput of 54 Mbps.
802.11n - May use either the 2.4-GHz or 5-GHz frequency range. 150 mbps
802.11ac - 433mbps-6.77gbps. 2.4 and 5 GHz (Current standard)
What common devices can interfere with WiFi networks? - 2.4 GHz is affected.
Microwave, cordless phone, baby monitor.
AP - Access Point It's from Cisco. Mounts to the ceiling.
What is a site survey? - Walking around the building to find weak and strong signals for
best coverage.
What are Rogue AP's? - Where some install their own personal router at the office that
creates a security threat.
WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy. NOT GOOD. Could be hacked in minutes.
What is a router? - Specialized computer, multiple network ports, software to maintain
info, links, and security features with firewalls, VPN, access control.
SOHO Routers - Linksys, D-Link, Apple. LAN - usually 4 Gig-E ports for your local
devices, Uplink port, USB port, Basic level Firewall, VPN.
Enterprise Cisco - Routers form network core, very fast connections. Routers connect
enterprise LAN to internet. Departmental LANs - connect to enterprise core at high
speed, built using Ethernet Switches, Nodes connect to switches.
Client-Server Model - Clear division of labor, IT does the services, client/user just
receives it.
, Peer-to-peer service model - Every computer could share its resources. Shared.
problem is that others may not be able to access my files once I leave home for the day.
Reduced security.
Hardware system - Standard workstation, specialized and rack mounted.
Server operating systems - Windows server and linux
Server Softwares - Microsoft Exchange Server, Apache, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle,
MySQL
UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply
Online UPS - Devices are constantly powered through the UPS's battery
Near Line UPS - Running off of the electrical power fro the wall when that drops in just a
few milliseconds, the battery hops in and takes over.
RAID - Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks
RAID 1 - You have exactly two hard drives in a computer system. Any time you write
data, the RAID system writes it to both of the hard drives. Exact same data. You are
spending twice as much on data but when one fails, you have an exact replica.
RAID 5 - Error correction. You use a bunch of hard drives. it will take your data and
divide it into several different drives. N+1. On the extra drives stores error correcting
data. Which is mathematically computed from the other drives. If one of those drives
crashes, the data on the surviving drives plus the error correcting data can be used with
the same math formula to calculate the data on the dead drive.
How can a company protect itself against LAN hardware failure? - Put multiple NICs in
the server. Its' a failover, load balancing. Multiple switches - sharing the load.
What technology was described that can protect against total server failure? - Cluster.
Active-Passive and Active-Active.
What is the single biggest cause of data loss ? - YOU - user error.
How do you protect against you as a risk? - Backup everything.
URL - Uniform Resource Locator
Application Transfer Protocol - http:// It is all case sensitive!
Path and File - /tech/index.html. /tech is the folder.
