ANATOMY.
DESCRIPTION OF SINUSES OF THE SKULL.
The sinuses are air-filled cavities located within the bones of the skull and face.
They are lined with a mucous membrane that helps to moisten and protect the respiratory tract. There
are four main pairs of sinuses, each named after the bone in which they are located:
1. Frontal Sinuses:
- Location:
In the frontal bone, above the eyes and behind the forehead.
- Function:
Help to reduce the weight of the skull, produce mucus, and contribute to the resonance of the voice.
2. Maxillary Sinuses:
- Location:
In the maxillary bones, located under the eyes anfd above the upper teeth.
- Function:
They are the largest of the sinuses and help to drain mucus into the nasal cavity.
3. Ethmoid Sinuses:
- Location:
Between the eyes, in the ethmoid bone.
- Structure:
Consist of a group of small air cells rather than one single cavity.
- Function:
Also play a role in the drainage of mucus and lightening the weight of the skull.
4. Sphenoid Sinuses:
