Review of Literature on Data Security
I feel that it is safe to say based on what most people to believe to be morally right and
from what all the articles I have read is that breaching data security is wrong, and we must all be
doing as much as we can to protect ourselves from the people out there that would wish to steal
our identity, private information, finances. The only real naysayers to data security are those that

wish to create the damage and harm but for a majority everyone else would say this is a top
priority as we are in this digital age. Everyone can do something to help protect themselves even
if they can’t afford the newest and greatest equipment and software simple thing by changing
passwords frequently, not opening emails or email attachments from senders you don’t
recognize,
Points of Agreement
The one point that all these sources agree on is that Data Security is a very important
thing in this digital age and that poor data security can have devastating consequences. Abidin
(2019) , Rawat (2021), and Taitsman (2013) all point out the growing world of hacking, how it is
becoming more frequent, and give detailed examples of harm that is becoming of people who fall
for these malicious schemes. Abidin stated in his article “businesses in the USA lost millions of
dollars due to the theft of confidential data. For identity theft, approximately eight million people
were victimized by identity thieves and these victims lost nearly $16bn” ( Abidin ) . Rawat goes
on to say “that attacks tend to come from different sources. 62 percent of the attacks involved
hacking, 51 percent used malware and 43 percent were social attacks. 14 percent were a result of
human errors.” (Rawat).
Authors Betino (2005), and Jing (2016) both discuss on a more technical level the types
of security, breaches, and networking side of how to be protected but still come to the same type
of agreement that data security is a huge issue and extremely important in today’s times. Jing
states in part of his article “Network attacks that are the main threats for security over the
Internet have attracted special attention.” (Jing 2016) and Betino states “data
protection is today more crucial than ever.” (Betino 2005).
