DICTIONARY ACTIVITY
NAME OF ACTIVITY: Absurd Word Search
TIME: 15 minutes
AIMS: A warmer exercise that allows students to practice meaning, form and pronunciation in a
fun way, as well as refine their language and vocabulary skills.
TEACHER'S INSTRUCTIONS:
- Divide students into groups of 3.
- Give each group an obscure word to look up in dictionary.
- Groups write down correct definition, as well as 1 false/obscure definition.
- Teacher collects all dictionaries and papers; and reads the definitions aloud.
- Students vote on which one they think is the real definition.
- Points awarded to each group that votes for the correct definition.
MATERIALS::
- 5 word cards
- 5 dictionaries
- Pen and paper
