My first secondary source, “Slavery! Slavery!” represents the
institution of slavery as it shows the ordeal of African Americans when they
had to rely on White Americans while being worked and oppressed by
their owners. This is shown by the images of the slaves sick from being
overworked and by the images of slave children and men bent over
working while White Americans wore fancy clothes and used their power
to oppress and control them. The intended audience for this piece is
modern-day Americans, so the history of the oppression of slavery can be
remembered, as well as the nature of being oppressed and relying on
others.
My second secondary source, “What’s Your Name, Kunta Kinte?” this
video clip shows a slave being whipped by another slave at the direction of
the slave owner. While the one man is being whipped, the slave owner
repeatedly asks him what his name is, specifically looking for him to say his
American name, Tobi and if he said his birth name, the slave owner would
have the other slave whip him, he continued to do this until the slave
owner broke the man down not to say his birth name but his American
name. The slave owner had the power to change the slaves thoughts of his
own name and to force the other slave to whip one of his own. The video
clip depicts the history of the control slave owners had over their slaves.
The intended audience for this video is educators and students so they can
see a visual representation of the control slave owners had over their
slaves. This allows the viewer to gain a deeper understanding of the
inhumane treatment of slaves during this time.

, The similarity between these two secondary sources is that they
both are a representation of the brutal treatment that most slaves
endured during slavery. In the first source, we can see the shadow of a
slave who was chained and looked to being sold while the free people
behind him hold a key with a vindictive look. In the second source, we can
see the slave being beaten to say a name that is not his own but the name
the slave owner has chosen for him. Both sources depict the injustice and
pain slaves endured being treated like property. The difference between
the two secondary sources is the tone between both chosen sources. In
the first piece, the tone being sensed is pure agony. You can tell the
difference between the lives of slaves and the free people by the clothes
they wore. It also depicts free people taunting the slaves while they
worked. In the second source, the tone
