Introduction: in this assignment I will be discussing copyright rules and regulations and
their implications and the use of graphic images , different file storage format and their
main features and the different editing tools that I will use in creating the logo for different
cover of their new magazines for SC magazines LTD.
Task 1 – Copyright
A: Copyright is a law which protects the work you produce so that no one else can steal your work
and use it as their own without your permission if they do use it without your permission they can
be charged for abusing the copyrights act.

C: Copyright free means something which is not protected by the copyright law this means you will
not be prosecuted for using that specific work.
D: in order to find who owns the copyright to an image there are few ways you can try to find who
has the ownership of the image these are by looking at copyright logos or symbols which are
associated with the image as well as name references to the image and in some cases watermarks in
the image.
E: to get permission to use a certain image you first have to check to see if it’s protected by
copyrights act and also if the use of that image would go against the law if you checked both of that
and image wont violate the rules of law then you can go ahead and check for who holds the
ownership to the copyright for that image. You also need to identify the rights you need because
there are many rights associated with copyrights act therefore you need to check which rights you
need and negotiate with owner and also ask the owner if they would require payment in the form or
royalties or licence fees.
P6: the potential legal implications of using and editing graphical images are that if you use a
certain image protected by copyrights act without the owner’s permission you could be prosecuted,
liable to pay huge fine or even send to imprisonment.

1. Format: .bmp
2. Stands for: Bitmap Image
3. Originator: Microsoft Corporation
4. Graphics Types: Bitmap
5. Suitability: It is use for printable images and graphic display as well output devices
Main Features
7. Source :Open - Proprietary means that bmp can be opened with any software
8. Compression: Lossless means that the image is not compressed
9. Colours: 24-bit (16.7 million) (RGB)
10. Colour Depth: 8bit (256 colours)
11. Description: This is an extension file for bitmap graphics using Microsoft Windows. A bitmap graphics made up of
thousands of millions of tiny dots called pixels.
Advantage: It uses a standard file format recognized by many programs on both Macs and PCs.
Disadvantage File size is too large and not compressed; for example an 800x600 image occupies nearly 1.5 megabytes.
