AC 2.2 - Evaluate the effectiveness of media used in
campaign for change
4 Methods:
- Explanation
- Which campaign used these methods
- 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages
- Explain whether it was successful or not

You must provide 3 advantages and disadvantages of using particular methods when
campaigning. You must provide an argument, this particular media has(n’t) been effective in
achieving their aim, you must back your statement up .You are only required to evaluate 4
types of media. You can talk about any campaign, not restricted to the ones covered in unit
2.1.

Social media/networking
Social media platforms serve as expansive networks enabling global connections among
individuals, with approximately 60 percent of the world's population engaging with or having
created a social media account. Social media platforms can be more image and video based
such as Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok and they can be more text based like Twitter and
Tumblr. Notably, a majority of transformative campaigns leverage these platforms to
promote change. Examples include Stop Hate UK, BlackLivesMatter, #WeWontWait
(Parkinsons), No Knives Better Lives. Social media holds immense potential, such as
being very easily accessible and available to anyone at any time. It's inexpensive to
campaign through this media and it can promote your information to a much younger
audience compared to other campaigning methods, like newspapers. However, social
media also carries inherent limitations. Building a following on any platform requires
considerable time and dedication and it requires you to update your account frequently in
order to not lose any of your followers. Additionally, you’re limiting your campaign to a
smaller audience if you are not using multiple platforms, when using snapchat you will
predominantly only reach a certain group of teenagers. Another disadvantage would be the
internet's impressionable audience and vulnerability to misinformation. Social media is prone
to be filled with misinformation due to people not being fully educated on the subjects they
are speaking about. Some campaigns may encounter challenges in countering false
information. In my opinion social media is a successful tool in campaigning, Black Lives
Matter, which was campaigned for significantly through the internet in 2020 due to the
COVID Pandemic, notably influencing the judicial proceedings that led to the conviction of
George Floyd's murderer. Undoubtedly, social networking stands as a highly effective tool
for advocacy and campaigning, harnessing its power to effect substantial social change.

Blogs
Blogs, short for web logs, are an informal diary that anyone can access and can provide
useful information regarding a campaign. Blogs are produced for campaigns and large
projects, but they can even be used personally. These online diaries have been used to
engage their audience in many campaigns, including UNLOCK, Barnardos, No Knives
Better Lives, Action Aid and Stone Wall. However, while blogs have their advantages,
