Independent Learner: - ANSWERSelf motivated and do not always wait for an
instructor to point them in the right direction.
Strategies to help begin listening, learning, and remembering: - ANSWER-Do the
assigned reading; understand new terms, listen better, and pick out the most
important info.
-Pay careful attention to your course syllabus.
-Make use of additional materials provided by the instructors; instructors post Course
Management System (CMS) notes, create an overview of the topic.
-Warm up for class (Review chapter intros/summaries).
-Use organizational tools; Handwritten notes=3 ring; Laptop= keep files organized in
seperate folders, include date and topic for each class.
How to listen in class: - ANSWER-Prepare for the lecture/message.
-Listen to the main concepts and central ideas, not just to facts and figures (Learning
the main concept helps understand the facts and not just memorize them.)
-Listen for new ideas; you will always learn something new, even in well-known
topics.
-Repeat mentally, actually try to memorize and understand the information you're
learning, not just hear it.
-Decide what is important and what is not.
-Keep an open mind; college teaches you to learn in new ways and train you into
providing evidence for your own beliefs.
-Ask questions.
-Sort, organize, and categorize, match with what you know and actively take notes.
Outline Notes - ANSWERa system of note taking that uses the Roman numeral
system putting main points in the upper hierarchy and supporting details in the lower
hierarchy.
