Ants outside of colony are adult sterile females (workers) they live for 6-12
months. They take care of the brood and rebuild the nest.
A few older workers (foragers) leave the nest to find food for workers and the
brood. less than 10% of foragers leave the nest.
Workers cannot eat solid food so the larva process and regurgitate, trophallaxis,
social stomach.
Communicate with pheromones.
