3.1. Question 1
Lesson 3 covers aspects concerning leadership, leadership theory and specifically
leadership during change. Question 1 will require you to gain insight on the various
leadership theories as well as your own leadership style. You will be required to apply
this knowledge to a case study and in doing so, demonstrate your mastery of the
learning outcomes.
1. Read the following articles that will give you an overview of the development of
leadership theories as well as different leadership styles. Both these articles provide
background to better understand your own leadership style. • Evolution of leadership
theory by Benmira and Agboola (2021).
• The role of leadership style in organisational change management: A literature review
by Mansaray (2019)
2. Complete the Leadership Styles Framework quiz that was uploaded as part of the
instructions to this assignment.
The Leadership Styles Framework was developed in the 1930’s by Kurt Lewin.
Although fairly simplistic, this framework, in many ways, form the basis of our
understanding of leadership. Mindtools (https://www.mindtools.com) provided a short
quiz to test your leadership style.
Report on your own leadership style, as identified with the Mindtools Leadership Style
Quiz, by indicating which leadership style you prefer and explaining, at the hand of the
articles, whether you think your natural style of leadership will benefit you in your
working environment. Substantiate your viewpoints with logical arguments and
thorough motivation. (5)
3.2. Question 2
Having studied the learning material and also having read the articles by Benmira and
Agboola (2021) and Mansaray (2019), which leadership style do you propose Sandy
should adopt in managing the change at BPOLAND. Motivate your recommendation
thoroughly. (5)
3.3. Question 3
Sandy asks you, as a seasoned HRD practitioner, to advise him on the best way to
approach the strategic planning of the HRD strategy. He indicates that he knows that
there are three possible approaches to executing the strategic planning process for
Human resource development (HRD) or Organisation development (OD) in
organisations today (see Online Lesson 4). Suggest the most appropriate approach for
BPOLAND. Motivate your answer by referring to the applicable theory and the
information in the case study. (10)
