Introduction

Malcolm X is best known as one of the greatest African American speaker of all times.

He was a bold leader for standing up for Civil Rights due to harsh judgement and dehumanizing

acts against African Americans and was determined to act and became the voice for African

Americans. He was accountable for permeating the Islam Faith to black communities to connect

them to their African heritage. Malcom X changed many lives and was killed for trying to share

his message with the world.

Author’s Background

Born May 19, 1925, in Omaha Nebraska, Malcolm Little experienced many hardships as

a child which molded him into the man we all came to know as Malcolm X. Born to a mulatto

mother and an African American father Malcolm received much flak from his mother because of

his light-colored skin and red hair. His features being in close resemblance to her dad who

apparently was a white man to whom he refers to as a white rapist. The Black Legion, a faction

of the Ku Klux Klan often harassed his family because of his dad's preaching the words and

beliefs of Marcus Garvey to the town Negros. In 1929 when Malcolm was 4 years old the house

that was owned by his dad was burned to the ground in the middle of the night. In 1931, just two

years after their home was burned to the ground Malcolm’s dad Earl was killed by the Black

Legion. His skull was bashed in on one side and he was laid on the train tracks to be run over by

the passing train. After his dad’s death, things went downhill fast. His mother was denied the

insurance check because they ruled his dad’s death a suicide. His mother struggled to make ends
