, 1. MATERIALEN EN MILIEU
1.1 Duurzaamheid en ecodesign
Bouwmaterialen zijn verantwoordelijk voor 10 tot 30% van de totale impact op het
leefmilieu en het klimaat. Een tool om alle dimensies in kaart te brengen is het LiDS-
wheel => ‘Lifecycle Design Strategy-wheel’.




Strategieën:

1. Selecteer materialen met lage milieu impact: niet giftig, niet schaars, lage
energie-inhoud, gerecycleerd of recyclebaar
2. Reduceer materiaalgebruik: zowel in gewicht als volume
3. Optimaliseer de productie: milieuvriendelijk, minder productieprocessen,
efficiënt, weinig afval,…
4. Optimaliseer distributie: minder verpakking, efficiënt transportmiddel/ logistiek
5. Reduceer impact tijdens gebruik: laag energieverbruik, weinig benodigde
hulpmaterialen (water, wasmiddel, filters,…), geen verspilling
6. Optimale levensduur product: makkelijk onderhoud, modulaire opbouw,…
7. Optimaliseer de productafdanking: hergebruik van producten/ onderdelen/
materialen, veilige stort
8. Ontwikkel nieuwe concepten/ functievervulling optimaliseren:
dematerialisatie, integratie functie



1.2 Circulair ontwerpen
De overheid werkt eraan om samen met bedrijfsleven en maatschappelijke organisaties
zuiniger en slimmer met grondstoffen om te gaan.



CIRCULAIRE ECONOMIE: nauwelijks afval;
producten en grondstoffen worden steeds
opnieuw gebruikt. Het gaat om het behoud van
de grondstoffen door behoud van de waarde
van producten, onderdelen en materiaal.

Je kan de grondstofwaarde behouden door de
R-ladder toe te passen, hoe meer grondstoffen
bespaard, hoe meer circulair de strategie is.

R1. Refuse en Rethink

- Product overbodig maken door van zijn functie af te zien
- Productgebruik intensiveren (delen of multifunctionele producten)

R2. Reduce

- Grondstoffen efficiënter gebruiken => minder grondstoffen tijdens productie

- Hergebruik; afgedankt; zelfde functie, andere gebruiker

R4. Repair, Refurbisch, Remanufacture en Repurpose

- Reparatie en onderhoud
- Opknappen/ moderniseren van oud product
- Onderdelen gebruiken in nieuw product

- Materialen verwerken tot grondstoffen (met dezelfde of mindere kwaliteit)

- Verbranden met energiewinning



Alles begint bij het ontwerp van een gebouw, garandeert dat een lang en duurzaam
gebruik? Kunnen bouwmaterialen hergebruikt worden eens het gebouw afgebroken
wordt? Bouwmaterialen kennen 3 plaatsen




1.3 Veranderingsgericht ontwerpen
Noden en wensen van gebruikers en de maatschappij evolueren. Door goed gemaakte
keuzes op lange termijn, kunnen materialen en gebouwen langer in de keten blijven.
Veranderingsgerichte concepten spelen een sleutelrol.

2.1 groei en bouw van de boom
2.1.1 INLEIDING
Om hout te kunnen toepassen moeten we de structuur begrijpen. Een ‘levend’ materialen
heeft zo ook veel nadelen waar we rekening mee moeten houden bij de toepassing.



2.1.2 WAT IS HOUT EIGENLIJK
Hout is een natuurlijk materiaal, dat door de bomen wordt aangemaakt op basis van
water, CO2 en zon.

Hout bestaat meestal uit: 50% koolstof, 42% zuurstof, 6% waterstof, 1% stikstof en 1%
diverse elementen. Deze organische elementen nemen de vorm aan van cellulose en
lignien.



2.1.3 DWARSDOORSNEDE VAN EEN STAM
van buiten naar binnen zien we:

- schors: beschermd de boom voor
invloeden
- bast: dunne laag dat voedingsstoffen in
water oplost en naar de wortels
transporteert
- cambium: celdeling, de groei van het hout
plaatsvindt => groeiringen
- spinthout: levende deel van een boom.
Zeer rijk aan water en voedsel.
- kernhout: het spinthout sterft af en
verkernt, de kern wordt donkerder dan de spint.
- hart: bruin sponsachtig weefsel, enkele mm



2.1.4 DIKTE EN LENGTEGROEI VAN DE BOOM
VERKERNEN = de verhouding verminderd van het bladkroon, ook al worden er nieuwe
houtlagen gevormd. Het saptransport wordt overbodig in een gedeelte van de stam (het
oudste deel, de kern). De sapstroom houdt geleidelijk op en de kern wordt droger.

 Hout dat nog niet verkernd is noemt spinthout

SPINTHOUT: buitenste, licht gekleurde deel v/d boom

KERNHOUT: binnenste, donkerder gekleurde deel v/d boom



Een product zal kernhout bevatten, de houtbewerker zal spinthout als afvalproduct
gebruiken, het is minder sterk.



De lengtegroei komt door scheuten, de boom groeit kegelvormig hoger.
