GCSE Italian Higher Tier Paper 4 Writing Exam Overview (Monday
20 May 2024, Afternoon)
The GCSE Italian Higher Tier Paper 4 Writing exam is designed to test your ability to write accurately
and creatively in Italian. You will be required to demonstrate your proficiency in using the language in a
range of contexts, from describing past events to expressing future plans or giving opinions on various
topics.
The exam lasts 1 hour 15 minutes and will consist of several tasks of varying lengths and levels of
difficulty. You will be expected to write in full sentences, using a wide range of vocabulary and
grammatical structures. It is important to show both accuracy and creativity in your responses.
Structure of the Exam:
The Higher Tier Writing exam will typically be divided into two or more tasks, each with specific
instructions. The types of tasks may include:
1. Task 1 (Shorter Task - 12 marks):
o You may be asked to write an email, letter, or post on a familiar topic, such as discussing
your hobbies, school life, or a recent trip. This task will test your ability to provide specific
information and your ability to use a variety of sentence structures. The writing should be
concise and clear.
2. Task 2 (Longer Task - 16 marks):
o This task usually involves writing a longer, more detailed piece. You may be asked to
write an article, story, description, or opinion piece on a specific topic. For example, you
could be asked to describe a past holiday, explain your future plans, or discuss a social or
environmental issue. You will need to show creativity, coherence, and the ability to
express complex ideas in Italian.
3. A Third Optional Task (if applicable - 8 marks):
o In some cases, there may be an additional task related to a cultural topic or a personal
experience, requiring you to write in-depth and include more detailed language.
