Candidate’s material – Role-play
To be conducted by the teacher–examiner between 2 April and 17 May
2024. Time allowed: 10–12 minutes (+12 minutes’ supervised preparation
time) Instructions
• You must not use a dictionary at any time during the test.
Supervised preparation time (12 minutes)
• Prepare this Role-play and the Photo card.
• You may make notes on an Additional Answer Sheet, but you must not write on the cards.
• You may refer to your notes during the Role-play and Photo card tasks.
The test (between 10 and 12 minutes)
• Your first task is the Role-play (approximately 2 minutes).
• Your second task is the Photo card (maximum 3 minutes).
• After these two tasks, you must hand both cards and any notes you made to the teacher–
examiner. The final task is the General Conversation (approximately 5–7 minutes) based on your
chosen Theme and the Theme which has not been covered on the Photo card.
• Remember: You must ask the teacher–examiner a question during the General Conversation.

GCSE Italian Higher Tier Paper 2 Speaking Exam Overview (June 2024)
The GCSE Italian Higher Tier Paper 2 Speaking exam is designed to assess your ability to
communicate effectively in spoken Italian. The exam will be conducted between 2 April and 17 May
,2024 by your teacher-examiner and will typically last about 10–12 minutes. It consists of several tasks
that test your skills in spontaneous conversation, pronunciation, fluency, and the ability to express and
justify opinions on a variety of topics.
Structure of the Exam:
The exam will generally consist of three parts:
1. Part 1: Role-play (approximately 5 minutes)
o In this section, you will be given a role-play situation to act out with your teacher. This
may involve a simple conversation in which you need to respond to specific prompts.
o The topics could range from everyday situations like ordering food at a restaurant, asking
for directions, making a complaint, or talking about your preferences and interests.
o You will need to answer questions and follow instructions in Italian, demonstrating
your ability to interact in a realistic context.
