Provide care for babies, toddlers and young
children
1. Explain how public liability influences an Early Childhood Centre. (Page 9)
Liability influences early childhood centres in many ways. Accidents can easily happen, and
parents/staff could blame the centre, make a case against the centre or even demand that
the centre pay for damages/hospital care/pain and suffering and take responsibility for
whatever has occurred. Having public liability protects the centre against such things and
provides a helping hand when needed.
Early childhood centres could come under attack by parents or staff claiming injuries
occurred etc. This could potentially ruin the centres good name and reputation.
2. Develop guidelines for your ECD Centre in terms of health and safety monitoring and
reporting. Provide a copy for your portfolio. (You can use the document ―Guidelines for
Early Childhood Development Services and your manual for guidelines) (Page 9)
