Belang van een veilige kindertijd
 Basis voor belang van veilige hechting gelegd door:
- Freud, Bowlby, Harlow en Ainsworth
- Bowlby: kind heeft warme, intieme en continue relatie met moeder/vaste
verzorger nodig
 Ontbreken hiervan kan leiden tot onomkeerbare mentale
gezondheidsproblemen

Definitie kindermishandeling: elke actie (bewust of onbewust) van verzorger die
(risico op) schade aan kind veroorzaakt
 KM is een transdiagnostisch risicofactor, wat inhoudt dat er verschillende
soorten stoornissen uit voortkomen
 Verwaarlozing: niet voldoen aan behoeften van een kind
- Fysieke verwaarlozing: niet voorzien in basisbehoeften van kind op fysiek,
medisch/tandheelkundig of onderwijsgebied
 Niet bieden van voldoende voeding, hygiëne of onderdak
- Emotionele verwaarlozing: niet tegemoet komen aan emotionele behoeften
van kind of niet beschermen tegen geweld thuis/in de buurt
- Ontzeggen van toegang tot onderwijs
 Mishandeling: actief iets schadelijks doen tegen kind
- Fysieke mishandeling: opzettelijk gebruik van fysiek geweld of
hulpmiddelen tegen een kind dat (potentie heeft) resulteert in fysiek letsel
- Emotionele mishandeling: opzettelijk gedrag dat aan kind duidelijk maakt
dat hij waardeloos, gebrekkig, ongeliefd, ongewenst, in gevaar is of alleen
waardevol is om aan behoeften van een ander te voldoen
- Seksuele mishandeling: voltooide/gepoogde seksuele handeling, seksueel
contact of contactloze seksuele interactie met een kind door een verzorger
- Shaken Baby Syndrome: kind wordt heftig geschud, wat kan leiden tot
hersenletsel, bloedingen, en soms blijvende schade of overlijden

Prevalentie
 Wereldwijde prevalentie:
- Fysieke mishandeling: 23%
- Emotionele mishandeling: 36%
- Fysieke verwaarlozing: 16%
- Seksuele mishandeling: 18% van meisjes en 8% van jongens
 Prevalentie in NL
- Prevalentie-onderzoek NL (2005 en 2010): volgens professionals is 34 op
de 100 kinderen (± 3,5%) slachtoffer van mishandeling
- Zelfrapportagestudie: 37% van kinderen tussen 12 en 16 jaar heeft 1(>)
