1. Dermatology: Medical branch of science that deals with the study of
skin & its nature, structure, functions, diseases and treatment.
2. Dermatologist: Physician who specializes in diseases and disorders of
the skin, hair and nails.
3. Esthetician: Specializes in the cleansing, beautification and
preservation of the health of skin on the entire body, including the face
and neck.
4. Skin: Largest organ on the body and if stretched out would cover
over 3000 sq inches and would weigh about 6-9 pounds.

9. Corneum: Horney layer of the epidermis that is the outmost layer
and contains keratin.
10.Keratin: Fibrous protein that is also the principal component of hair
and nails.
11.Lucidum: Clear layer of the epidermis and consists of the small cells
that light can pass through. It is thicker on the palms and soles of the
feet.
12.Granalosum: The granular layer of the epidermis and is composed of
cells that looks like granules and are filled with keratin.
13.Spinosum: The spiny layer of the epidermis where the process of
skin cell shedding begins.
14.Germinativum: Basal cell layer or the deepest layer of the epidermis
which is also the alive layers and contains melanocytes.
15.Melanocytes: Produces melanin which is the what gives skin its
pigment.
16.Epidermis: The outmost and thinnest layer of the skin which contains
no blood vessels.
17.Dermis: Also referred to as the True Skin is the inner layer of the skin.
It contains the blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves, suboriferous and
