This could be used later in the same lesson or in another lesson. You do not have to use the vocabulary items
you have selected for pre-teaching.
NAME OF ACTIVITY: Dictionary Quiz
TIME: 10 Minutes
AIMS: The aim is to make use of a dictionary to find specific words and to have an
understanding of their MFP (Meaning, Form, Pronunciation)
TEACHER'S INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Divide the class into pairs so that each student has a partner to work with.
2. Give each student an activity sheet.
3. Give each pair of students a dictionary.
4. Monitor the pairs as they work and assist where necessary.
5. Once the class has completed the activity, go through definitions with students
using drilling.
MATERIALS:
1. Dictionaries for each pair of students.
2. A dictionary activity worksheet for each student.
3. A copy of the reading text for each student. (see amended text of artificial life)
4. Pens/Pencils and erasers for each student
