Teacher Language
This part of the assignment shows a) some of the language I would use in the presentation, and b) how I would give
one instruction.
a) Presentation
T: Good job, could everyone please sit down. and take out your notebooks and pens.
S: (take out notebooks and pens)
T: Can everyone please look at the board. We are going to learn about “first conditionals”. I want
everyone to record notes as we learn, make sure you record the meaning, the form and the
pronunciation. It is also important that you record the example sentences. Okay?
S: Okay Teacher Angie
T: Does everybody understand?
S: Yes Teacher
T: Lets begin. Can anybody tell me what is the function of a first conditional, why is it used? Anyone?
S: Student shake head showing ‘no’.
T: A first conditional is used to talk about possible future events and their likely results. (cause + effect)
Let’s take a look at the form of a first conditional. Over here (pointing at board) we can see that the
form is: If + present simple, will/won’t + verb. Let’s look at this example. (reads example out loud)
E.g. If we stop polluting, we will save the planet. Who can tell me what the present simple is in this
example?
S: It is stop
T: Yes, but is it only the word ‘stop’?
S: yes
T: Lets break down this sentence and have a look. We have IF + WE STOP POLLUTING, WE WILL +
SAVE THE PLANET. Here we can see that “we stop polluting” is the present simple and “save the
planet” is the verb.
Do you understand so far?
S: Yes teacher
T: Okay, lets continue.
(teacher carries on with presentation)
