Brain dominance refers to the distinct functions of the brain's left and right hemispheres.

The left hemisphere typically handles quick, literal interpretations of speech, while the right

hemisphere excels at making inferences, modulating speech, and fostering self-awareness. The

concept of brain dominance suggests that the brain is composed of asymmetric and functionally

specialized parts, with one hemisphere often being more dominant than the other. According to

this theory, people who are left-brain dominant excel in careers involving linear thinking, math,

and verbal information. On the other hand, "right-brained people" are often described as more

emotional, intuitive, and creative, thriving in careers that involve creative expression and free-

thinking.

Based on these distinctions, I took a brain dominance test and scored a seven, indicating

that I am left-brain dominant. This means I prefer logical order, focus on details rather than

concepts, plan ahead, and approach decisions in a practical, realistic, and non-impulsive manner.

Interestingly, 77% of test takers are more right-brain dominant than I am.

I took the quiz fairly quickly to avoid overthinking the questions, which made it

interesting to observe the attributes they were assessing related to left and right brain functions. I

was surprised by my results, as I didn’t expect to be so left-brain dominant. My major is civil

engineering, and I wonder how my results would have differed before starting college. Over
