either directly or indirectly. Some of the key sector-specific pieces of legislation include:



1. National Environmental Management Act, 107 of 1998 (NEMA)


NEMA is the cornerstone of South African environmental law and provides a framework
for environmental protection. While it does not specifically address climate change in its
text, its principles align with climate change considerations, such as the promotion of
sustainable development and ensuring environmental justice. The National
Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 39 of 2004, which falls under NEMA, deals
