- 1920 was elected as Warren G Hardy Vice President
- Nickname “silent cow” bc he always silenced his cell phone
- People saw his as a paradigm for fiscal restraints
- Documentary history of Calvin Coolidge’s life by taking documents that he
has written and stripping it to his words and life
- Born on July 4th, 1872 (The only president to be born on the 4th)
- From Plymouth, Vermont
- His father was a very good influence and was a very well known man in
town
- He was a very shy boy
- Tragedy happens when his mother dies at 10
- Younger sister dies when she is just 12
- He is a very slow starter in life and very unsure of himself until he gets to
amherst
- Goes to Amherst because the headmaster of Ludlow had gone there
- He is very well known at Amherst by his second year and is giving his class
speech voted by his class
- As he leaves Amherst says that the sons of the American Revolution are
having an essay contest and says he should join it bc he was a very strong
writer and he wins the silver prize then they nominate him for the gold
metal.
- He goes to North Hampton massachusetts to study law study law under
lawyers (NEVER went to law school)

- He met his wife outside of his home because she saw him wearing a derby
hat while shaving
- Grace's Mother (Coolidge wife) didn’t like coolidge because she felt as if her
daughter wasn’t ready
- He starts to work his way up the political ladder ( Starts at the cities
republican committee, the chair of the committee)
- RUNS 19 times for political office and wins 18 times (Lost the one on the
school board bc he was on his honeymoon in montreal and didn’t have
children)
- Gets elected to the State house of representative and is sent off to Boston
- Introduction letter for the Speaker of the House mentions that he is like s
“stinge cat and is better than he looks”
- He serves a couple of terms in the state assembly
- North Hampton area wasn’t republican at the time
- He decides to run for mayor of North Hampton (Primarily Democrat) WINS
- Runs a very efficient term cuts taxes, reduces debt, increases salaries for
teachers
- Goes to the state senate given an assignment from hell
“Bread and roses strike” was in lawrence massachusetts where they have cut
the amount of hours and pay that women get so they gon strike and is very
rough bc a women who dies and violence breaks out
- Coolidge solves the problem
- Frank Waterman Stearns who runs one of the biggest department stores of
Boston and is an Alumni for Amherst and ask Coolidge for a favor to
expand the sewer system at Amherst and Coolidge says no but it has been
passed
