Pronouncing - Answer- no vitals for 1 minute and again in 5 minutesex
Family present - Answer- at 1 minute notify them after 5 minutes patient is dead
At death - Answer- closing eyelids
cleaning mouth
check for vomitus
head and neck placed under pillow to prevent levity (purple bruising as blood drains)
Family after death - Answer- connect as if there is anything I can do
"I am sorry"
family doesn't have to leave for personal care
Reassure family that patient's passing was peaceful
If distress, at the time of dying, pt was not suffering
Be calm, peaceful, and supportive
Pt was not anxious
Pt did not feel pain
Arrangements for funeral home
Ask family about prepping the body after death ( this deals with culture)
Offer assistance in cultural care
Allow family members to help, if it can help then deal with grief
