Explain why HR Planning is important to an organisation.
In this assignment I will be explaining why HR Planning is important to an
organisation. The company which I have chosen for this assignment is The
Bijenkorf.
Human resource planning is important to The Bijenkorf, because it allows them
to decide when and how many employees they need during a specific period.
The planning also helps them identify what kind of skill set is needed for the
job. The Bijenkorf can also use HR planning to view skills of the employees who
already work at the company, to decide if they can do another job where there
is a shortage in employees. The HR planning also helps the company identify
the required skills for different departments of the company so that all aims
and objectives are achieved. For example on the sales department employees
must have skills like; good communication skills, selling skills, product
knowledge, listening skills and customer friendly. The skill set a department
manager should have are; Planning, communication, decision making, problem
solving, motivational, and delegation. The HR department of The Bijenkorf
needs to make sure that necessary skills knowledge and abilities are present
under their staff, because if this isn’t the case certain jobs cannot be carried
out. For example, The Bijenkorf makes use of technological equipment in order
to find products in stock so they will need someone specialized in electronics
with IT skills if they don’t have someone with these particular skills it would be
harder for them to find products in stock. The Bijenkorf`s HR planning makes
use of workforce profiles this means that they always have a list of employees
with their special skills and abilities, so for example if they need a new person
for a job they don’t need to look externally because they would have a list of
employees who fulfill the job. However if certain skills for a job are not present
at the workforce this can lead to jobs which cant be carried out. For example if
a department manager doesn’t have leadership/planning skills or accounting
knowledge this could lead to the department being a mess because nobody
would know what they have to do. As for a lack in accounting knowledge this
would lead to sales figures not being the same as the actual figures or VAT not
being paid. Which would lead to legal action against The Bijenkorf.
