PART ONE
INSTRUCTIONS
The Iowa General Assembly is responsible for producing and distributing a
number of
publications such as the Iowa Acts, including the 2022 edition of that
publication. All bills and joint resolutions enacted during a legislative session
are printed in the Iowa Acts. The portions of bills enacting new or amending
existing Iowa Code sections or parts of those sections are incorporated into
the next edition of the Iowa Code by the Legislative Services Agency under
the direction of the Iowa Code Editor. In completing this part of the
assignment, access the electronic versions of both the 2022 Iowa Acts and
the 2023 Iowa Code. When in one of these documents, use the keyboard
command Ctrl F to conduct a word search. Access the following hyperlink and
answer the associated questions.

This part of the assignment concentrates on bills enacted during the 2022
legislative session and
published in that year’s edition of the 2002 edition of the Iowa Acts. A bill is
identified by either Senate File (S.F.) number or House File (H.F.) number and
a title (Beginning with: “An
Act...”). The Iowa Acts are divided into chapters with each chapter
corresponding to the version of the enacted bill (referred to as an “Act”). An
Act is also designated by its own unique chapter number and title. Often a
bill and its Act amend a section or a unit of a section of the last edition of the
Iowa Code by revising language (either by adding new or striking discarded
language in the Iowa Code). In this case, the relevant Act amends sections
and its subunits in chapter 26 of the 2022 Iowa Code which regulates
competitive bids for public improvement contracts. That Code chapter
applies to a “government entity” which is defined in Iowa Code section 26.2
to mean a state agency and a local government such as city or county.
