• Fluid obtained by oral ingestion & breakdown of food
• Primarily lost by urine & feces
• Minor losses (insensible losses) evaporation from skin, lungs, and saliva
1. Only important in children w/ tracheostomy & nasopharyngeal suction
• Infants DON’T concentrate urine well
