What Does the Thyroid Gland Do? - ANSWER-The thyroid glands function
is to regulate the bodies metabolism

It produces three hormones:
• Thyroxine (T4)
• Triodothyronine (T3)
• Calcitonin

Physiology of the Thyroid Gland - ANSWER-The thyroid gland is under
control by the pituitary gland

When T3 and T4 are low the pituitary gland produces Thyroid
Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

TSH stimulates the thyroid gland to produce more T3 and T4

The pituitary gland senses the rise of thyroid hormones in the blood
serum and decreases the TSH production

The pituitary gland is under control by the hypothalamus which secretes
TSH Releasing Hormone (TRH)

TRH tells the pituitary gland to stimulate TSH

Physiological Effects of Thyroid Hormone - ANSWER-There is no
particular target tissue for thyroid hormone
