Use the following chart to outline Piaget's stages of cognitive development and identify
the major problem-solving skills of children at each stage. The diagram below represents
Piaget's four main stages of development. Write the names of the stages in the
appropriate blanks.

Object Permanence
Definition: the awareness that things continue to exist even when not perceived
Example: showing a toy to an infant and then covering it. An infant that lacks object
permanence will act as if the object ceased to exist
