Throughout the entirety of Inside No.9’s episode Diddle Diddle Dumpling (Morales, 2017), the director Guillem Morales demonstrates his ability to utilise specific aspects of mise-en-scéne to not only engage our attention but accentuate meaning by reflecting the narrative within the boundaries of the film frame. In this essay, I will be exploring this in more depth as well as arguing that Morales contributes to the narrative by reflecting a sense of loss, absence, and separation through mise-en-scéne.
