● Export of slaves created world system of trade and wealth
● Mono crop colonies

○ Gold coast
○ Gambia
○ Turned into producers for the overseas market
○ Created dependence on the outside world
● Most profits were not used to strength african economies -> used for western european
and us colonies
● Two kinds of colonies: settler vs non settler
○ Those with many european settlers
