Explain how IT is currently deployed in an
organisation and how it meets their needs.
What is cloud computing in organisations?
Cloud computing is an important role in organisations as it allows organisations to
have a flexible and scalable method of managing and delivering resources and
services. It offers numerous benefits to businesses and assists them in achieving

2

,various goals and objectives. Below I have states some significant features of how
cloud computing is employed in businesses:

Cost savings: Cloud computing can help organisations in lowering their financial
costs with the purchase and maintenance of on-premises technologies and data
centres. Businesses can utilise cloud services on a subscription basis or pay-as-you-
go basis, resulting in more predictable and cost-effective IT budgets.

Flexibility and scalability: Cloud services have the potential to provide the capacity
to quickly scale resources up or down in response to changing workloads and
requirements. This flexibility allows organisations to deploy resources much more
efficiently.

Working remotely and collaboration: Cloud-based tools and applications allow
employees to work remotely, like at home and collaborate with their colleagues by
enabling them to access business-related data and applications from anywhere as
long as they have an internet connection. COVID-19 is a great example of this.

Key characteristics of cloud computing
The key features of cloud computing are crucial attributes that present what cloud
computing is capable of. Below I have written an overview of the key characteristics
of cloud computing:

On-demand self service
On-demand self service refers to users’ ability to supply and manage computing
resources as needed without the need for human intervention from the service
provider. On-demand self service is important because this feature allows users to
deploy, grow, adjust services and resources quickly, reducing the time and effort
needed to meet changing requirements.

Benefits of on-demand self service: Organisations are able to easily deploy and
manage resources without waiting for a long period of time.

Drawbacks: Unauthorised access or wrong use of on-demand self service can
create a security risk.

Rapid elasticity: The capacity of cloud resources to scale up and down swiftly is
known as rapid elasticity. This characteristic is important for organisations as it
provides dynamic scalability to sort out traffic surges and unplanned workload
increases.

Benefits: Scalability and cost savings
Drawbacks: Unpredictable costs

3

, Ubiquitous access: Ubiquitous access makes sure that users have the ability to
access cloud services and resources from various devices such as laptops,
smartphones, tablets and geographical locations that have an internet connection. It
provides remote work, collaboration, and data access, allowing people and
organisations to operate from anywhere in the world. This feature is really useful in
today’s day and age where remote work is really popular.

Benefits of ubiquitous access: Remote work because it supports flexibility and a
work-life balance.

Drawbacks: A disadvantage of ubiquitous access is security challenges.

Resource pooling: The usage of pooled computing resources, such as servers,
storage and networking infrastructure, by numerous organisations or users is
referred to as resource pooling. Resource sharing leads to better infrastructure
utilisation, cost savings, and increased efficiency. Cloud providers optimise resource
allocation to accommodate fluctuating client demands while ensuring tenant isolation
and security.

Benefits of resource pooling: Cost efficient
Drawbacks: Security concerns

Measured service: This refers to cloud providers being able to monitor and track
resource usage, giving customers their detailed insights into which services are used
and how they are consumed. This characteristic of cloud computing allows
organisations to be able to track and control how much cloud they are spending,
optimise resource utilisation, and assign costs correctly. It facilitates transparent
billing and assists with creating informed decisions about resource allocation.

These key features of cloud computing collectively explain the core principles of
cloud computing and showcase the foundation for its advantages, including cost-
effectiveness, flexibility and agility.

Explain the different cloud technologies that
could be used by an organisation and how it
could meet their needs

What are the different types of cloud computing models?
Cloud computing is surrounded by a range of technologies and models of delivery
and each of them have different attributes. Below I will explore the main
characteristics of cloud technologies including SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.
