Design a study.
How to design a study
Design
experimental design
- IMD
- RMD
- MPD
why this design what are its benefits and how will you use.
Includes variables:
- IV AND DV (explain)
Controls
- Extraneous variables and how they are being controlled.
Materials and apparatus
- What materials are needed?
- Measurement of DV (ordinal, nominal, interval data)
Data analysis
Descriptive statistics
- Measures of central tendency: mean, median mode.
Measures of dispersion
- Range, standard deviation.
Inferential statistics
- What type of statistical test should be used and why.
Design an experiment to investigate the effect of indoor plants on mood in office workers. For
your measure of mood, you should devise a measure that would give data suitable for testing at
the ordinal level of measurement.
Design – experimental design
For this experiment, an independent groups design will be used. An independent groups design
will be appropriate in order to reduce order effects, in particular practice effects which could
lead to demand characteristics, where the participants work out the aim of the experiment: the
effect of indoor plants on mood.
Design – variables
The independent variable is whether they are in a room with plant or if they aren’t in a room
with plants. And the dependent variable is the change of mood measured via a questionnaire
which will require participants to rate their happiness on a scale of 1-10 (with one having a low
