Midterm Study Guide
This “open book” Midterm will be 60 minutes long (4:05 - 5:05 PM on Monday 3/11).
Thematic Q & A (24 points):
You will answer 12 (twelve) focused questions that will be based on our materials and will be related
to topics we focused on in class.
Textual Analysis (6 points):
You will write 1 (one) textual analysis (about 1-2 paragraphs) about a text from the Bible. You should
be prepared to discuss these texts and other issues you deem relevant. A successful textual analysis
will draw on the knowledge and skills you have learned thus far in this course.

• Tilley, Faith: What It Is and What It Isn’t, 26-56
Israel’s Covenant with God
• Genesis 12, 15, 17; Exodus 1-3; Psalm 137

Judea and the Origins of the Diaspora
• Raymond P. Scheindlin, A Short History of the Jewish People, 25-49
