2. Community Report Guidelines
FIRSTLY, lets break down how you can do well in your community report:
1) Use the template provided by the lecturers
In past rubrics, they comment that while you have used the given headings, you have also
included some additional and unique headings for your report.
THEREFORE, use all headings in the template and then add on or give subheadings that are
unique and create context for your community. This is showcased in the example portfolios I
have attached that have gotten 85%+.
2) Use the theoretical lenses in your report
The rubrics from the past have also focused on including concepts from the theoretical lenses.
Therefore, ensure you go through the lenses and understand these concepts specifically as they
are mentioned in the rubrics repeatedly:
• The community – insiders and outsiders/who makes up the community
• Stereotypes in the community
• The history of the community – mention colonialism and how apartheid shaped the
community
• Additional concepts that will get you marks according to the past feedback:
globalisation, individualism, the idea of ethnic authenticity and the role of technology.
You want to apply these concepts under headings in your community report. Make sure you
discuss them by placing them in the context of your community. That is why it is important to
use the headings in the template, as the headings correlate to the theoretical lenses, which
correlates to the rubrics.

Using this method, I got 94% for my PYC4814 portfolio.
3) Add nice visuals and have structure
This means adding in different fonts, highlighting key words or concepts, adding pictures and
generally making your document look well put together and visually stimulating.
Numbering your headings and subheadings to make sure it has a logical and easy to read
structure is advised.
