2A HOISTING HAND SIGNALS 2024-2025


To raise the load vertically on an excavator or backhoe, move your hand in a small
horizontal circle with your forearm vertical and your forefinger pointing up.


Lower Load Vertical

(Excavator/Backhoe) - Answer With either arm extended downward, forefinger
pointing down, move the hand in a short horizontal circle.


Retract Boom (Telescoping) - One Hand - Answer One hand, fist in front of the
chest, thumb pointing outward, and heel of fist thumping the chest.


Move the load horizontally.

(Excavator/Backhoe) - Answer With either arm extended, hand uplifted and open
toward the direction of movement, move the hand in the desired direction.


Move the Load out horizontally

(Excavator/Backhoe) - Answer With either arm extended, hand lifted and open
toward the direction of movement, move the hand in the required direction.


Raise Boom.

(Excavator/Backhoe) - Answer With either arm stretched horizontally and fingers
closed, point the thumb upward.


Lower boom.

(Excavator/Backhoe) - Answer With either arm stretched horizontally and fingers
closed, point the thumb downward.
