This is an overview and a quote analysis of the poem 'Mametz Wood' by Owen Sheers. It is included in the poetry anthology for GCSE English Literature if you are doing the exam of WJEC Eduqas. It was made by me for the 2019 GCSE exams which I have just completed and of which I recieved a Grade 9 for this subject. The document shows a clear and concise overview and analysis of the poem. It includes notes on: the poet context, the rhyme scheme, the tone/mood of the poem, the themes of the poem and analysis of significant quotes to memorise for the exam which includes poetry terminology and thoughts on the quotes. CONTEXT:
 Was known as one of the bloodiest of battles and it was a scene of
fierce fighting in WW1
 The name of the poem comes from how the soldiers were ordered to
take cover in Mametz Wood which was the largest area on the
battlefield
 Sheers visited the site of the WW1 battlefield which was his inspiration
 He grew up in Wales and was very patriotic to Wales; also the soldiers
were Welsh
