Assessment 4 comprises THREE questions, each with sub questions. These
questions are designed to help you work through the entire study guide. Please answer
all questions. Make sure you sign the declaration form for this assignment. The form
is at the end of assessment 5.
QUESTION 1 (30)
The questions below are based on the Grade R daily programme on page 48 of
your study guide. The daily programme should be used to plan your Grade R
lesson. Study the daily programme and answer the questions below.
1.1 Reflecting on what takes place during the morning circle, explain how you
would change your approach to engage the learners more enthusiastically.
In the morning circle, engagement can be increased by incorporating interactive
activities that capture the attention of young learners. Instead of just reading a
weather chart or taking attendance, you could add elements like:
Begin with a lively song related to the theme of the day to wake the children up.
Include movements that align with the lyrics, encouraging them to dance, jump, and
move around.
Use puppets or props to make the morning stories or discussions more engaging.
Allow learners to participate by making sound effects or repeating key phrases in the
story.
Let learners take turns being the ‘leader’ tasks like marking the weather chart, leading
the morning greeting, or choosing a song to sing.
Incorporate a quick session where learners can bring a small object from home to
discuss with the class, which keeps them excited about sharing and listening to their
peers.
1.2 Provide an explanation of the term 'developmentally appropriate level.'
