Direct Supervision - Answer Dentist provides directions and is physically present
on the premises when treatment is completed.
General Supervision: ANSWER Dentist delivers directions but is not need to be
present on the premises when treatment is completed.
Oral prophylaxis is a preventive and therapeutic dental technique that involves
bacterial debridement of calculus, soft deposits, and plaque, as well as smoothing
of tooth surfaces.
RDH Duties: ANSWER DH Assessment, Develop and implement DH care plan,
oral hygiene exam, counseling and health screenings, local anesthetic, NO2, and
soft tissue curettage, administer non-aerosol, non-caustic topical agents, and
perform RDA tasks if licensed before January 2006.
RDH practice does not include - ANSWER Diagnosis and comprehensive
treatment planning, placing, condensing, carving, or removing permanent
restorations, surgery or cutting on hard or soft tissues, including but not limited to
the removal of teeth and the cutting and suturing of soft tissue, prescribing
medications, and administering local or general anesthesia or oral or parenteral
conscious sedation except administering NO2.
RDH functions under General Supervision - ANSWER Prophy, SRP, topical,
therapeutic, and subgingival agents to control caries and perio, impressions for
bleaching trays, applying/activating whitening agents with non-laser, light curing
devices, any duty that does not require direct supervision unless it would result in
an emergency.
RDH functions without supervision. ANSWER Educational services, oral health
training programs, oral health screenings Refer any screened patients to the dentist
for a comprehensive exam.
, RDH License Validity - ANSWER: Expires every two years at midnight on the
final day of the birth month.
Change of address: ANSWER Report changes within 30 days.
Change of Name: ANSWER Report changes within 10 days.
Continued education for RDH - ANSWER 25 units of CE every two years, not
necessary on the first renewal. Maximum number of CE 8 in one day. 12 CE can be
completed via mail or online. Two CE must be infection control, and at least two
must be per California legislation. Keep receipts for up to four years for auditing
purposes.
Critical instruments are those that penetrate oral tissues.
Semi-critical tools are those that make contact with oral tissues but do not enter
them.
Instruments that just contact skin - ANSWER: non-critical instruments.
Low-level disinfectants kill some fungi and viruses, but do not inactivate
tuberculosis.
Intermediate-level disinfectants destroy most fungi and viruses while also
inactivating tuberculosis.
ANSWER: High-level disinfectants destroy all fungi and viruses except for spores.
