Hurlamaboc

Cuireann an t-údar Lisín, bean atá i gceannas ar a teaghlach, ar a teach
agus ar a saol féin in iúl go láidir sa scéal seo. Ar an gcéad dul síos, is léir
go bhfuil Lisín i gceannas ar a teaghlach. – The author puts Lisín, a woman
in charge of her family, of her house and of her own life strongly before us
in this story.
Tá sí pósta le Pól le fiche bliain anuas. Bhuail sí leis agus é ina fhear ag
obair i siopa beag. Chonaic sí na féidearachtaí i bPól - bhí a fhios aici go
mbeadh sé níos saibhre sa todhchaí agus sin an príomhfháth gur phós sí
é. – She has been married to Paul for the last 20 years. She met him when
he was a working man in a small shop. She saw the possibilities in Paul –
she knew who would be wealthier in the future and that’s the main
reason she married him.
Tá beirt mhac ag Lisín - Cuán, an mac ab óige, agus Ruán, an mac ba
shine. Tá siad dathúil agus cliste agus tá Lisín an-bhródúil astu. Thug sí
moladh agus spreagadh dóibh an t-am ar fad go háirithe do Ruán. Bhí sí
ag iarraidh go mbeadh na buachaillí cliste agus bhí oideachas fíor-
thábhachtach di. – Lisín has two sons, Cuán, the younger son, and Ruán,
the older son. They are handsome and smart and Lisín is very proud of
them. She gives them praise and motivation all the time especially to
Ruán. She wanted it so the boys would be smart and education was very
important to her.
Tá Lisín an-údarásach lena beirt mhac agus tá sé seo le feiceáil nuair a
mhothaíonn Ruán mí-chompordach léi. Cheap sé go mbeadh an chóisir
uafásach ach ní dúirt sé aon rud lena mháthair mar bhí sé de nós aige an
rud a bhí sí ag iarraidh a chloisteáil a rá léi. – Lisín is very authoritative
with her two sons and this is seen when Ruán feels uncomfortable with
her. He thought the party would be awful but he didn’t say anything to his
mother because it was of his habit to tell her what she wanted to here.
Bhí post maith ag a fear céile. Bhí sé ag obair mar léachtóir gnó san
ollscoil agus rinne sé a lán airgid as stoc a cheannach ar an idirlíon.
Cheannaigh sé árasáin agus tithe ar fud na hEorpa agus in Éirinn. Rinne
Lisín fear saibhir de agus bhí meas ag daoine orthu. – Her husband had a
good job. He worked as a university business lecturer and he made a lot
