HORMONES OF INTERMEDIATE & POSTERIOR HYPERPHYSIS LOBE:
Intermediate lobe:
Melanocyte-stimulating hormones (MSH) (synthesized from POMC)
= Stimulates melanocytes to produce pigmentation of the skin.
-> Alpha-MSH:
->Beta-MSH:
Posterior lobe: (30% of hypophysis)
-Vasopressin (ADH)
= Increases amount of water that is reabsorbed from the kidneys into the circulation
= Increases arterial blood pressure.
1. Produced by hypothalamus
2. Travels down the axon of neuro cells to the posterior pituitary.
3. Released from vesicles in response to hyper concentration in the plasma. Structure :
- Oxytocin
= Contraction of the uterus muscles in child birth
= Milk secretion after birth
= Estrogen stimulate oxctocin release
= progesterone inhibits it.
