Exam Questions with Solutions
Newtons 1st law of Motion - -An object at rest will remain at rest and an
object in motion will remain in motion until a force is applied

-Earths force of Gravity - -Fg = Kg or lbm x 9.8m/s^2 or 32.2 ft/s^2
Fg = m x g

-Newtons 2nd law of Motion - -Acceleration of an object will be proportional
to the sum of the forces being applied. F = M x A. M is mass in kilograms (kg)
or pounds mass (lbm) and A (acceleration) is expressed as m/s^2 or ft/s^2

-Newtons 3rd law of motion - -For every action there is an equal and
opposite reaction.

-Centripetal Force - -Is a force that makes an object travel along a curved
path

-Centrifugal Force - -Pulls an object toward the outside of the curved path

-Scalar - -Scalar values have magnitude but no direction

-Vector - -Tells how large an object is and the direction it's acting

-Torque - -Twisting force which attempts to rotate an object. T ( Newton
Meters (Nm) or foot pounds force (lbf-ft) = F (force) x R (torque arm or
distance from the fulcrum)

-Static Friction - -Is the force of friction when two objects begin to slide past
each other.

-Kinetic Friction - -Is the force of friction opposing an object as it is sliding
past another.

-Gravitational Potential Energy - -The higher an objects moves the more
potential it has. PE (joules or ft lbs force) = m (mass of the object) X gravity
(9.8 m/s^2) X h (height)

-1 Joule = (in newtons) - -1 Newton X 1 meter

-Conservation of Energy - -Energy cannot be created nor destroyed.
