She is homeschooled and lives with parents that are overweight. In this paper, I plan to discuss the child's potential health issues and risk, identify and describe potential risk, potential questionsto ask the patient's parents, and possible strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle within the patient Health Issues and Risk of Child Parental weight is one of the predictors of obesity in children and adolescents. Childhood obesity is an ongoing issue across the world. The frequency of overweight and obesity in adults and children has dramatically increased over the past three decades (McMurray, 2016). Parental obesity poses a risk for childhood obesity. Additional risk factors for childhood obesity include socioeconomic status (SES), birth weight, physical activity, and diet (Stewart Agras, 2004). Children with obese parents can become overweight through learned sedentary lifestyles and poor food choices. The child being homeschooled by two obese parents pose a risk for the child’s health. A homeschooled child may not get the recommended activity time set aside as a child in public school. The World Health Organization recommends children and youth aged 5–17 engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity daily (Boys and Girls Club of America, 2020). Children with two obese parents are 10 to 12 times more likely to be obese (Randle, Okely, & Dolnicar, 2017)
