Teacher's academic profile Srud.M.Ahmed, I have bachelors of nursing from university of Hawler, Iraq (2006), and Master certificated in Medical surgical nursing, from the same university (2013). In 2006 I were employed Akre technical Institute as assistant lecturer. I taught Psychiatric, Maternity, physiology, primary health care, fundamentals of nursing for four successive years before master certification, after master certification I taught primary health care and Fundamentals of nursing and maternity nursing. 9. Keywords Fundamentals of Nursing , Maternity Nursing 10. Course overview: Fundamentals of Nursing are the foundation of all nursing practices. This course is a study of vital signs and methods of taking vital signs, History taking and physical examination, Role of nurse and nursing care plan. The student is taught to give medication and fluid by canula or injection, detect fever of patient emphasizing on the cases treatment need care. The course is presented as following: History of nursing, vital signs, drug administration, and taught through lecture, demonstration, and supervised clinical experience. Emphasis is placed on meeting needs of individual patients, as determined by the nursing process. In this medical-surgical clinical experience, students build on knowledge and basic skills from prerequisite courses. The lab component covers advanced nursing skills associated with the care of acutely ill patient. In the clinical component, the student begins to develop competency with time management and prioritization of patient care, while Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific research 3 gaining an increased proficiency in assessment skills and medication administration. Using the nursing process, students learn to care for patients with moderately complex needs. 11. Course objective: At the end of the course the students will be able to: 1- Provide today’s nursing students with an understanding of the nurse’s role in health and illness. 2- Apply current practice and advances knowledge and skills in health care and technology. 3- Utilize the nursing process as a framework for providing nursing care for the patient 4-Demonstrate safe administration of drug and parenteral therapy. 12. Student's obligation We want to emphasize that attendance in class and at the lecturers’ office hours and help sessions is imperative for success in this course. To avoid disruption of lectures or exams, cell phones must be turned off (or put in ‘silent mode’ before students enter the lecture hall or exam rooms, and may not be used there at any time while class or an exam is going on. Students must come to lab and lecture prepared, read texts and course manuals before class, and Don’t put off study until exam time. 13. Forms of teaching Normally the subject matter of each theoretical lesson is outlined in a power point presentation, movies, and animations. The lecture manual outlines the key points, and structures for each lesson. The Practical lessons compose of theoretical hours and practical applications of the learned subjects in the laboratory, then clinically on the patients in the hospital.
