Assignment 4
DUE August 2024

, SECTION A: HISTORY OF EDUCATION
Question 1
1.1 What is meant by the concept "Global North and Global South"?
The concept of "Global North" and "Global South" categorizes countries according to
their economic development, political influence, and cultural dominance, relatively
than geographically. The globally common "Global North" is basically economically
developed countries found in the Northern Hemisphere, specifically Western Europe,
North America, Australia, and Japan, which have had a lot of global dominance in
politics, economics, and cultural abundance. In contrast, the Global South comprises
economically developing countries primarily located in the Southern Hemisphere,
often characterized by lower income levels, limited political influence on the global
stage, and historical experiences of colonization and exploitation.
1.2
As emphasized in the excerpt, research in the Global South is characterized by one
overwhelming imbalance. It is undertaken, mostly, by scholars from the Global North.
This can be reflected in many topics taken in the field of history of education, which
more or less echo Northern interests or orientations. Through such uneven research,
a somewhat biased representation results as regards worldwide educational
histories and practices. The universities should make a number of paths to the
encouragement of research in the history of education within the Global South.

Encourage Local scholarship: By ensuring there is an fostering support for
articulated research programs enunciated by scholars from the Global South
Work with fellow researchers globally: Creation of university partnership between
institutes of the Global South and Global North to foster fair research collaboration.
Promote indigenous Knowledge: By promoting, appreciating, and integrating
indigenous perspectives and histories in educational research
Adequate funding and resources: To research in the area of educational histories
that have been ignored in the Global South.
Encourage interdisciplinary approaches: Discuss to some extent various
methodologies and interdisciplinary studies covering local aspects and perspectives
1.3
Critically discuss any five of the historical "hidden truths" referred to in the text that
you will include in a new Intermediate or Senior Phase History curriculum.
From this text here are five historical "hidden truths" for inclusion in a curriculum:

Human race originated in Africa: Informing that the earliest human skeletal remains
were found in Ethiopia.
