1.Integumentary: Skin
2.Circulatory: Decreased cardiac output. Enzyme action on heart, heat
rate and ability of heart to return to normal after. illness
3.Respiratory: Lungs become restricted by rib cage; rib cage size
increases; lung tissue becomes more rigid; decrease in respiratory
strength; low lung expands less, upper lung more.
4.Musculoskeletal: Decreased muscle fibers and tissue, muscle strength;
in- creased waste products in muscle (lactic acid, carbon dioxide);
muscle cells accu- mulate fat and collagen; bones become porous and
lose bone mass; calcium leaves the bone.
5.Digestive: Teeth loosen and gums recess; loss of taste buds. Decrease
in: enzyme actions, hydrochloric acid (HCL), peristalsis, ability to
tolerate fat, gag reflex and sphincter control.
6.Endocrine: Decrease in cells, size of glands, gland secretions, ability
to adapt to stress because of decreased adrenaline, decreased thyroid
secretions.

,7.Urinary: Decrease in size of kidneys, functional cells, vascular
circulation to kidneys, urine produced and eliminated, filtering
functions of kidneys, decreased tone of urinary muscles and ability to
control flow of urine.
8.Reproductive - Women: Decrease in size of ovaries, uterus, amount of
hormonal secretions.
9.Reproductive - Males: Prostrate enlarges, decrease size of testes.
10.Neurological: Decrease in brain weight, neural cells, psychomotor
reaction time, blood flow to the brain and in all sensory perceptions;
memory loss; plaques form in brain tissue.
11.Conservator: Legal authority and duty to protect assets of a
"Protected Person" (a minor or incompetent). Appointed by court. Can
only make decisions about property.
12.DNR: Order by a physician, with respect to specific patient, re:
cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest.
13. Durable Power of Attorney: Becomes effective when principle
becomes incom- petent to act for himself. Cannot make medical
decisions unless specifically stated.
14.Guardian: Legal responsibility and authority to make decisions for an

, incompe- tent or a minor. Appointed by court. Specifically states
authority.
15.Living Will: Concerning life of person executing will, in which
individual provides guidance for circumstances under which they wish
to refuse, or discontinue the use of, life-support measures administered
should they become incompetent.
16.Last Will & Testament: Subject matter is the disposition of property or
custody of minor children.
