Also happens to be a racial outsider (a Moor), which is shown to have an effect on the opinions of other characters on him. Desdemona - ANSWER-The protagonist's wife. Is shown to be both a stereotypical Shakespearian woman (weak and submissive), as well as a more unconventional female character (witty and defiant), at various stages in the play. Is eventually framed and killed. Brabantio - ANSWER-Desdemona's father and Venetian senator. Is opposed to the marriage of Desdemona and Othello at the start of the play, and gives a warning to Othello (foreshadowing the end of the play). Emilia - ANSWER-Iago's wife and Desdemona's attendant. She does not trust her husband, but is also shown to somewhat seek his approval (i.e., she gives Desdemona's handkerchief to Iago, which ends up allowing him to carry out his plans). Roderigo - ANSWER-An unsuccessful suitor of Desdemona. Assists Iago in his plans, under the assumption that this would help him win her hand (although this is not the case). Bianca - ANSWER-A prostitute, often solicited by Cassio. Has a small but significant role in the outcome of the play. Iago - ANSWER-Antagonist of the play. Othello's "ancient". Becomes jealous when Michael Cassio is appointed lieutenant instead of Othello and plots to take revenge on him through Desdemona and Michael Cassio.
