Getting ready for the SAT is definitely different from the way you would approach tests in high school or
college. - ANSWER Every question on the SAT relies on your ability to read and understand American
English and/or to use basic math principles.
To get better at the SAT you will have to try to think like the test. It's a matter of IMPROVING YOUR
ACCURACY in the application of principles you already know - ANSWER It's about improving your
technical execution and comes down to strategy, execution, and accuracy...not intellect.
First Goal: get a general grasp of the mechanics of each part of the test. - ANSWER Read the strategies of
each section, follow along all sample solutions, watch videos until you understand the reasoning behind
most or all of the test.
Goal: understand the mistakes you make after you make them.
Figure out what the mistake was, and why it happened, and what you should have noticed to keep you
from making that mistake.Each question is a system of relationships. - ANSWER There are ways that right
answers differ from wrong answers, and there are relationships among them.
Goal: eliminate those mistakes, so called careless mistakes. Avoid these mistakes, or notice them after
and correct them. - ANSWER It helps to be aware of the test's rules and patterns, particularly when it
comes to answer choices
Try to understand the test. You will want to remember what kinds of patterns and things to look for.
Practice as you learn to apply these ideas. The SAT is a coherent, predictable system of rules and patterns
that we understand. - ANSWER The SAT tests the same underlying principles according to the same rules
and patterns on every test.
Practice: Semi-structured Stare-and-Ponder
Learning the general idea of how a certain question type works and does the things you learn. - ANSWER
Learn. Find another question like it. Stare at it. Ponder it.
Goal is to understand why the answer is right and the wrong answers are wrong.

Practice and then have a post-mortem to analyze your work. This is critical to success. - ANSWER Do a
practice section. Then go through all the questions and try two understand why each question was
written the way it was, what you could have done to answer correctly quickly and directly, and what
lessons you can learn. RECOGNIZE RULES and PATTERNS!!!
The Shortcut Search
Look at questions that you already know the answers and figure out the fastest way to arrive at that
answer with certainty. - ANSWER Passages: figure out which phrases in the text support the correct
answer.
Math: think about ways to use diagrams or answer choices to avoid using formulas.

Go through each answer choice and figure out what would have to change about the question to make
that answer correct. - ANSWER This will help you understand right and wrong answers.

Guessing is marking an answer choice without being certain it is correct.
SKIP IT if you cannot figure out an answer. - ANSWER This does NOT mean that you have to understand
the meaning of every word, or understand the grammar, or how to do the math.o
