A/C - ANS-Aircraft
A/CL - ANS-Aircraft Left (left hand-side of the A/C facing flight deck)
A/CR - ANS-Aircraft Right ( right hand side of aircraft facing the flight deck)
Airborne - ANS-AC has no physical contact w ground and is holding itself in the air.
Air Cargo - ANS-Includes air freight and airmail
Air Maintenance Log - ANS-A record book kept in flight deck containing a complete
history of the AC including flight time reports inspections repairs and alterations to the
plane.
Airline Certificate - ANS-License rating which meets the specific requirements from the
FAA issued to operators of scheduled supplemental or authorized carriers.
Airspeed - ANS-Speed at which airplane is traveling thru the air may be more or less
than speed in relation to ground.
Air traffic - ANS-A/C operating in the air or on an airport surfaces excluding loading
ramps and parking areas
ATC - ANS-Air Traffic Control; A division of the FAA that controls airways, navigational
aids, and established traffic flying on established airways
Auto Pilot - ANS-An electronic device used to maintain control of the aircraft when
desired by the crew.
Bank - ANS-To turn or tip the airplane either to the right or to the left in order to change
direction of the aircraft.
Block to Block - ANS-The period of time between when an airplane begins to taxi away
from the gate at one station until it stops at the gate at the next station
Bulkhead - ANS-A "wall" that divides sections of the aircraft cabin
, CA - ANS-Captain; Pilot in Command
CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) - ANS-Rules designed by the FAA to protect
passengers and crew members thus ensuring safe flight operations.
Charter Flight - ANS-A plane "rented" by a group for its exclusive use
Check Flight Attendant - ANS-A specially trained and certified Flight Attendant
responsible for ensuring Flight Attendant competency and standardization through the
performance of IOE and line proficiency checks
Chief Pilot - ANS-Supervisory Pilot who acts as the liaison between line pilots and
management
Commute - ANS-Travel to and from work when one lives in a city other than the city or
state in which they work.
Wholly Owned Subsidiaries - ANS-An independent company that operates under a

V File - ANS-Crewmember files located in each domicile crew room in which company
correspondence is distributed

crewmembers present a professional, crisp, and consistent public appearance
UM - ANS-Unaccompanied Minor; Child between the ages of 5 and 14 years old
traveling alone

TSR - ANS-Transportation Security Regulations
TSA - ANS-Transportation Security Administration; former security rules of the FAA and
other security regulations issued by the Transportation Security Administration
Connection - ANS-Additional flight(s) required to get between departure city and
destination city (requires a change of planes)
