Samenvatting

,Het doel van dit onderzoek is de synthese van polystyreen via een emulsiepolymerisatie en een
levende anionische polymerisatie m.b.v. IR, DSC en SEC. Hierbij werd verwacht dat het infrarood
spectrum van polystyreen eruit zou zien zoals in figuur 1 1.Verder werd er verwacht dat polystyreen
een glasovergang (Tg) zou hebben van 95 °C.2 Ook wordt er verwacht dat polystyreen een
dispersiegraad zal hebben tussen de 1,1 en 30. 3 Uit de resultaten van dit experiment is gebleken dat
er in het anionische PS nog onzuiverheden zitten. Dit wordt bevestigd door de pieken boven de 100%
van het IR spectrum, een glasovergang van 92 °C bij de DSC meting en een dispersiegraad van 35,88
bij de SEC meting. Een aanbeveling zou hier dan ook zijn om een herkristallisatie te doen. Over het PS
van de emulsiepolymerisatie kan niet veel worden gezegd, omdat er alleen een IR is opgenomen. De
opbrengst was laag, waardoor het experiment opnieuw gedaan zou moeten worden om hier een
betere uitspraak over te doen.
