Competency 3- Assessment Supply Chain Operations Plan Organization Overview Crown Equipment Corporation is a global manufacturer of material handling equipment, like fork-lifts and supporting technology. Not only does Crown manufacture this material handling equipment, but they also develop them, test them, sell them and build them with parts from suppliers and parts that are made within the company. Crown was founded in New Bremen, Ohio in 1945 by two brothers, Carl, and Allen Dicke. The company is still family owned to this day. They have grown the company from its start of manufacturing temperature controls to being a globally recognized manufacturer. Supply Chain Plan This is a simple but large supply chain. It always begins by knowing the goals of the company. After assessing the company goals do market research to know what products to market to consumers that align with your company goals. Forecast demand so you don’t over produce or under produce to the best of your ability. By knowing the forecasted demand, you can allocate inventory to meet these expectations. By knowing what is expected you can determine a production rate and can determine the capacity of the manufacturing from the forecasted demand. Always be sure to fill orders placed. Happy customers are repeat customers. Always ensure your supply chain plan has flexibility so you can adapt to any situation. If a supplier suddenly closes, you should already have an alternative supplier in mind. Having a good supply chain plan can reduce operational delays, improve resource allocation, decrease costs, and improve operations.
